May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health is something we should never take for granted, but this month it’s especially important, as May is dedicated to shedding light on mental well-being or lack thereof. This month especially, TTI wants to remind everyone that it’s okay to not be okay. The more society talks about mental health together, the more normalized these conversations become – ultimately empowering people to seek the help they need. Fortunately, more people are now talking about and prioritizing their mental health, just as they would their physical health. They are also embracing self-care to improve overall well-being, which is critical because when you take care of your mental health, your physical and emotional health also improve. But keep in mind that self-care looks different for everyone. Exercise, sleep, and a balanced diet might be the strategy for some, while others may need the added support of seeing a mental health professional or joining a support group. It’s important to identify what works best for you. So, just like you might share tips with friends about maintaining a healthy weight or improving blood pressure, consider taking the opportunity this month to share your experience of how you are caring for your mental health. Help enforce the message that “it’s okay to not be okay,” and encourage people to seek help when they need it.

Take care of your heart for better mental health

The American Heart Association has done a great deal of research that proves that not only are the heart and mind connected but that they

are often dependent on each other. If something impacts the heart, it can also affect the mind and vice versa. With that in mind, the University

of Michigan published information during Heart Month (February) that addresses ways people can take better care of their hearts.

These methods include raising awareness, exercising, eating healthfully and more. Click here for the article.
